How to make Challah for Shabbat (Braided Bread)
1-2 hours (including rising time)
1 tbsp instant dry yeast
3/4 cup warm water
4 cups all purpose flour
1/4 cup oil
2 eggs (1 for egg wash)
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup sugar
Sesame seeds (optional)
Mix yeast and warm water until bubbles are visible.
Mix the eggs, oil, salt and sugar one at a time until well blended.
Add the flour and knead for about 5 minutes.
Put in a greased bowl covered for 1-2 hours.
Make sure the size of the dough is doubled.
Proceed with the Separation of Challah blessing.
Braid then brush the top with egg wash and add sesame seeds.
Bake at 180C or 350F for 25-35 minutes.
Prepare your challah board and cover.
